Books & Reading
Our reading selection
Libraries can offer readers much more than classics, best sellers and non-fiction. We can also offer books in a variety of formats including large-print, spoken word and graphic novels. Some of our libraries also offer collections of books in languages other than English.
Please note that our Purchase Suggestion service is suspended until April 2025.
If you would like to suggest a book, eBook or eAudiobook that we do not have in stock, you can make a Purchase Suggestion! Log on to your library account and select ‘Your Purchase Suggestions’ on the left, complete the form and submit. Alternatively, you can email us your Purchase Suggestion at libraries@eastdunbarton.gov.uk
Many of our libraries host monthly Reading Groups and have regular book displays featuring books from major prize lists and national book promotions. Our expert staff are also on hand to suggest books and help you discover new authors.
Healthy Reading
Healthy Reading is about using books to help people who are experiencing stress or other emotional difficulties. East Dunbartonshire libraries have a collection of Healthy Reading materials dealing with some of the common issues many of us face including anxiety, depression, bereavement, assertiveness and stress. We stock NHS publications which offer help and advice on subjects such as strokes, ICDs and dementia. These can be accessed easily from our leaflets stands.
Reading Groups
Reading groups are a great way to relax and share your love of books and reading. Some of these groups meet in libraries and others are independently run. Joining a Reading Group can help you discover new authors and titles, widen your reading choices and meet other readers in a friendly, informal setting. Ask for more information next time you are in the library, or email libraries@eastdunbarton.gov.uk
Each month an eBook or eAudiobook is made available in our BorrowBox collection for lots of people to read at the same time – perfect for reading groups! These books are displayed on our BorrowBox website and in the BorrowBox app as Available Now.
We have a dedicated Reading Group collection of multiple fiction and non-fiction titles available for reading groups to borrow.
You can view the titles in this collection through our online catalogue.
If you would like to borrow any of these titles for your reading group or would like to suggest a title for our collection please ask at your local library or email libraries@eastdunbarton.gov.uk
